A Journey Marked by Excellence

Thomas Fleuret possesses a golden touch. Meticulous, demanding, and inventive, these qualities define him whether he is crafting intricate leather pieces or pursuing his passions for gastronomy, mechanics, or environmental conservation. His dedication to excellence is evident in every project he undertakes, ensuring creations of impeccable quality. He began his professional life in the culinary world, becoming a head chef at the age of 21. Working winters in the Alps near la Clusaz and summers on a private Mediterranean beach near Montpellier. He championed refined homemade cuisine with a strong ethical sense, respecting both ingredients and clients. His goal was to create memorable experiences for his patrons. However, certain industry practices clashed with his ethics, leading him to leave gastronomy. After a stint in environmental protection, which reinforced his commitment to French craftsmanship, he returned to his native Limousin. There, he rediscovered a region rich in artisanal traditions and a living heritage that resonated with him.

Discovering Leatherwork

During a vaulting course, Thomas Fleuret was introduced to the equestrian world. The instructor, a leatherworker, invited him to his workshop. Thomas was immediately captivated by the material's nobility, texture, scent, and endless possibilities. From that moment, his passion for leather was ignited. He crafted his first tool from an old screwdriver : an awl for piercing leather. He began stitching, invested in professional equipment, and set up his workshop. Through self-learning, experimentation, and innovation, he honed his techniques and style over time. Today, these tools, collected over the years, remain in his workshop. Thomas decided to make leatherwork his profession, becoming a self-taught saddler specializing in high-end equestrian equipment repair and saddle making. He notably worked for the renowned Alexis Grüss company, known for its equestrian shows.

Creating Unique Leather Pieces

Thomas Fleuret's desire to further explore leatherwork led him to create his first leather engraving. A significant piece commissioned by the Confrérie de Saint Léonard and the local mayor, gifted as part of a town twinning. This work, now displayed in Niedernkirchen, Bavaria, marked a turning point in his career. It sparked his desire to showcase local heritage and craftsmanship, particularly the centuries-old tanning expertise in Haute-Vienne. The region produces exceptional leathers for luxury houses, with the Bastin & Fils Tannery supplying J.M. Weston. Thomas uses the same leather in his workshop, stating, "I have always wanted to work with the leather from Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat. We produce an exceptional material here that is renowned worldwide. I want to take it even further." Thomas envisions unique, refined leather pieces for luxury car interiors, yachts, and prestigious residences and boutiques. These hand-engraved, personalized decorations tell a story, serving as enduring memories inscribed in leather. Attentive and sensitive to human relationships, Thomas creates works that reflect each client's personality, drawing on his meticulous attention to detail honed during his culinary years.

More than a leather artisan, Thomas Fleuret is an artist, a storyteller, and a guardian of traditions.
